Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Overview

Quebec Experience Class Program

The Quebec Experience Class (PEQ) is a separate program for individuals with work or study experience in Quebec. It offers a pathway to permanent residency, and international students in Quebec may be eligible for various scholarships from private, public, or government institutions.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is for individuals who have gained at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada (NOC 0, A, or B) and meet the required English or French language proficiency (CLB level 5 to 7, depending on job classification).

Eligible work experience may come from:

• Free trade agreements
• Positive LMIA-based work permits
• Postgraduate work permits (PGWP)
• Dependent status of international students or skilled workers
• International Experience Canada (Working Holiday)

Applicants with LMIA-based work permits must demonstrate that they worked for the employer specified, earned the reported salary, and fulfilled the duties listed in the LMIA.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST)

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST) offers a pathway for skilled tradespeople to immigrate to Canada. While FST candidates can also qualify for the FSW program, they often do not reach the 400-point threshold in Express Entry due to differing point structures.

Eligible trade occupations include:

• Industrial, electrical, and construction trades
• Equipment operation and maintenance
• Technical jobs in agriculture and natural resources
• Manufacturing and processing roles
• Service supervisors and central control operators
• Cooks, butchers, and bakers
